A Muggle's Guide to the Wizarding World Theme Parks

Orlando, Hollywood, Osaka, Beijing, and the studio tours — where to go, what to ride first, and how not to waste your galleons.

There are few sentences more dangerous to a fan’s savings account than “we could just go to Diagon Alley.” Here’s your field guide to every place on Earth where that’s literally possible.

Universal Orlando — the full pilgrimage

Orlando is the only place with both lands: Hogsmeade (Islands of Adventure) and Diagon Alley (Universal Studios Florida), connected by the Hogwarts Express — an actual ride requiring a park-to-park ticket, which is worth it for the journey alone.

Do first: Harry Potter and the Gringotts Escape in Diagon Alley, then Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure in Hogsmeade — still the best coaster on the property and the longest queue, so rope-drop it.

Don’t skip: the interactive wands. Around thirty locations across both lands respond to correctly-cast spells. Kids lose their minds; so do adults who claim they’re “just here for the kids.”

Money tip: one butterbeer per person per day is festive. Three is a sugar event you’ll remember for the wrong reasons. (Frozen is the correct format. This is not up for debate.)

Universal Hollywood, Osaka, and Beijing — Hogsmeade abroad

Each has a beautifully realised Hogsmeade with Forbidden Journey as the anchor ride. Osaka’s version is famously immaculate and gets seasonal overlays; Beijing’s is the newest and arguably the most visually spectacular castle. None have Diagon Alley — that remains Orlando’s crown jewel.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London — for the detail obsessives

Not a theme park: better, if your love is the craft. The actual sets — the Great Hall, Diagon Alley, the Hogwarts model used for aerial shots — plus original costumes and props. Walking onto Platform 9¾ with the real Hogwarts Express is a genuinely emotional experience for most fans. Book weeks ahead; walk-ups are a myth.

There’s a smaller sibling, Studio Tour Tokyo (opened 2023 on the old Toshimaen site), which is superb and significantly easier to book.

Before you go

Wands bought in the parks run $55–$75. If gifting is the goal, you can get a beautiful replica wand delivered for less — and save the park budget for the things that only exist there: the Express, the escape from Gringotts, and drinking butterbeer under a castle at dusk.

Planning a trip as a gift? Pair the announcement with a personalised acceptance letter. “You’re going to Hogwarts” is technically true and devastatingly effective.
